I really enjoyed the whole journey with you!
The planning, logistics, getting to know you through the portrait session, the video we made before the wedding.
Getting to know ‘my couples’ is always super important to me, so a big thank you for trusting the process!
Preparation
We spent a lot of time to plan the day correctly, so nothing is rushed, but also - nothing is missed.
The ceremony was set to finish around 4pm, with the sunset being at 5pm - it didn’t give us much of the day light. We had to be creative :D
After each preparation we went outside - to capture family and bridal party / groomsmen photos - avoiding those 2 seeing each other.
The preparation was in Crown Hotel. the view from the rooms….
As always - We started with Ken. His whole family was there, His friends came. Which is very important, as both Paula and Ken are from Singapore, so having family come to Australia is heartwarming.
after he was all done and set - we went outside, to the Crown’s garden - a beautiful backdrop, so we avoided having to shoot on the street, with cars everywhere, with people walking around. Garden was just perfect.
Then a quick ride upstairs to start with Paula. It was a completely different story :D Makeup in full swing, kids enjoying the view, Paula’s dress on a mannequin. God, what a dress! embodied with 100s of tiny stones that were reflecting sun rays. The dress was just stunning. After Pula was done with her makeup, we focused on getting as much candid shots as we could.
When you are stressed in the morning - you don’t see small things. You don’t not how your father is looking at you, trying to hide tears, you don’t notice the proud and happy face of your mum.
But we do :))
After Paula was ready in her dress, we spent a few minutes just with her. to capture the emotions she was feeling right there, before everyone else saw her.
Then we did the first look with her parents and siblings. Love every second of those moments!
Ceremony
The trick with planning a city wedding is transport and time. We always have to account for the traffic, finding a parking spot, moving the equipment and setting everything out, so it’s always a fight against the clock :D
The ceremony was in the St. Marry’s Cathedral. It’s the most iconic ‘church’ in the city, so everything had to be perfect. I went there a week before to discuss what we can and can’t do, where can we place the cameras, where can we freely move and where we absolutely can’t put our feet on. It was challenging, but man… everything turned out amazing. Photos like paintings, video like a movie.
When Ken was waiting for Paula at the alter, she walked with her mom and dad. You could feel the emotions. Everyone was waiting for this moment.
Paula and Ken - you couldn’t have picked more beautiful spot in Sydney for your ceremony.
But not the place matters, but the people. and you two truly love each other. The smile, the tears, the kindness in your eyes, and in everyone’s eyes that surrounds you. It was an honour witnessing your ceremony.
30min for just the two of you
Portrait session is not for shot list, Pinterest inspo, quick posing and run to the reception. Portrait session is the only time of the day that you are together, alone. Just the two of you. Where you can breathe in what has just happened. You got married, share your emotions and thoughts with each other, share your happiness. I know the presence of the cameras can be intimidating, but that’s why I love to connect with you before your big day. So you are not followed by 2 creeps looking at you. But by 2 friends who are really happy for you.
This time we didn’t have that hour for you to fully relax, to breathe for a second, to have that 10 min without anyone bothering you, asking questions. But I think we still managed to have fun :) When we are limited by time, the location doesn’t matter anymore. It’s not about nice pictures, it’s about you, your love and your connection.
The PARTY
Ok, I have to start with the speeches. They were sooo personal! sometimes I hear just the obvious ‘ congratulations, all the best! ‘
But here?? Every word that has been said was so valuable, so thoughtful and thought through! Have to admit, even I got emotional :D
The Waterside venue worked perfectly too. The view of the opera house was like cherry on top. And of course your dance,
It was legendary :D Well executed !!
So, a few words from me.
Paula and Ken, when couples book me for their wedding is not ‘just another booking’ for me,
It’s a full adventure, where I can get to know you, travel that last mile with you. The portrait session, The video we did together.
And the final chapter of my work - the wedding day itself.
It’s always an honour that the couple trust me enough to place their beautiful day in my hands.
I don’t take it lightly.
